First Wednesday of every month we have someone come into the centre from the Jellurgal Aboriginal Culture Centre to immerse the children within the Aboriginal culture.

Learning Through Play

Children learning through play and discovery at our child care centre.

Our programs are built around the proven philosophy of play-based learning. This approach helps children develop naturally by exploring, experimenting and discovering through guided play.

Educators plan activities that match each child’s interests and developmental stage, using music, art, storytelling, outdoor adventures and role play to make learning enjoyable and meaningful.

Play-based learning promotes creativity, problem-solving and a love of discovery that lasts well beyond the early years.

Every day is an opportunity for children to gain confidence, express themselves and enjoy learning in a fun + supportive environment.

Outdoor Exploration and Active Play

Our amazing outdoor playground area.

Children benefit greatly from time outdoors. Our outdoor play areas are designed to encourage movement, imagination and discovery while promoting physical health and wellbeing.

Outdoor experiences help children build coordination, resilience and social skills as they run, climb and play together. Activities in the garden, sandpit and shaded play zones provide new challenges and learning opportunities that complement indoor programs.

By exploring the world around them, children strengthen both body and mind while developing a genuine sense of confidence and curiosity.

Frequently Asked Questions

What skills do children develop when attending day care?

Children develop a number of essential skills during their time at day care. The purpose of a day care centre like ours is to nurture the development of these skills in a healthy and natural manner. Day care encourages the development and early learning of all areas of your child's PIES - that's their Physical, Intellectual, Emotional and Social growth.

Skills that your child will develop during their stay at daycare include fine and gross motor skills, socialisation, and decision-making. Among much more, of course! At the Jacaranda childcare centre on the Gold Coast, staff are on hand to encourage the types of activity that your child completes if we feel they have untapped potential regarding a particular skill.

What activities enrich your child's development?

Our Gold Coast childcare centre operates on a play-based learning basis. This means that we offer a number of activities for your child to engage with as they please. This is more productive for young minds than forcing them to sit through activities that they don't enjoy! Play-based learning also brings variety to your child's day, keeping them active and entertained from when they arrive until they leave.

The activities that your child completes is ultimately up to them, but rest assured our daycare centre has a wide range of choices available. This includes art-based activities like finger painting and outdoor-based activities such as completing a safe obstacle course. We have activities to be completed solo, activities to do with another child, and activities that were intended to be completed within a group environment. Every day is a new day at our daycare!

How do our staff support your child's development?

Our team are fully committed to supporting your child whilst they undergo this crucial development stage. That's why we're on hand at all times to provide a safe environment for your child to grow, learn, play and socialise. All of our staff members have completed the required training to ensure that your child is in only the most competent hands.

Of course, a large part of play-based learning is a child developing their initiative and critical thinking skills by figuring out stuff on their own. We're here to make sure that your child is protected and maximising their time at the daycare on a daily basis. Being able to have a sense of independence allows your child to be inquisitive and interact with their surroundings at a pace that suits them.

How does play-based learning benefit your child?

Play-based learning has been proven to be an effective way of encouraging a child to realise and fulfil their potential. The main advantage of play-based learning is that it encourages an active imagination in children, which in turn helps to develop other critical skills. This includes problem-solving, sharing, the ability to concentrate and more.

Some studies also suggest that information is retained more readily whilst having fun - this means that your child will absorb more useful information over the course of their play-filled day! All of our activities have been developed to enrich your child's development in at least one way, but often they tick many boxes!

What age can children start at daycare?

Babies that have not yet turned one can attend daycare, but there are certain things you need to look out for. Babies crave attention in a one-on-one environment and will thrive when they have consistent care from the same educator. Quality daycare centres will have limited babies in their nursery room and consistency when it comes to their care, so they will recognise their carer and be more likely to develop their mental and physical skills at a rapid pace.

Toddlers also require a lot of individual attention as well, because this is when they will become very active (meaning falls, bumps and bruises) and they will also begin to test boundaries. If you are looking to get your child into daycare at a young age, it will be highly beneficial to them - but only in an environment where there is a low carer to child ratio in a centre where quality staff members are retained.

What are the benefits of childcare?

Our Gold Coast Childcare is the perfect way to prepare a young child for school - and for life. From the youngest age, children will start to develop routines in a safe and structured environment.

Aside from the educational side of things (childcare introduces children to the basics of literacy and numeracy), it is also an important step in your kid's emotional development. In the childcare environment, they will learn to forge relationships with children outside of their family unit which will help improve their social skills and emotional resilience.

By learning from the behaviours of others and developing through interactions with other children, your child will find their personality and learn all of the skills they will need to create meaningful friendships and relationships later in life.

What age groups do you cater to at Jacaranda Early Education?

At Jacaranda Early Education, we cater to a diverse range of age groups. We have rooms designed for specific age brackets, such as the Orchids room for babies aged 0-18 months, the Billy Button room for toddlers aged 1-2 years old and the Banksia room for children aged 2-3 years old. Each room is tailored to meet the unique developmental milestones and needs of the children in their respective age groups.

Are you part of the Queensland Government Kindergarten Program, and is funding available?

Yes. Jacaranda Early Education offers a Government-approved Kindergarten program delivered by qualified Early Childhood Teachers. Our Kindy program follows the Queensland Kindergarten Learning Guideline and supports children in building the social, emotional and foundational literacy and numeracy skills they need for a successful transition to school.

Families may also be eligible for significant government support. From 2024, the Queensland Government’s Free Kindy initiative provides up to 15 hours of kindergarten per week (for 40 weeks each year) at no cost for eligible children enrolled in an approved program like ours. In addition, most families can receive the Child Care Subsidy (CCS) to further reduce out-of-pocket fees.

If you’re unsure about your eligibility, our team is happy to guide you through the enrolment and funding process.

How do you handle allergies and special dietary requirements?

At Jacaranda Early Education, we take allergies and special dietary requirements very seriously. Our staff are trained to be vigilant in identifying and managing allergies and we work closely with parents to create a safe and inclusive environment for every child. When you enrol your child, you will be asked to provide details of any allergies or dietary restrictions your child may have. Our team will then work with you to ensure your child's needs are met and they receive appropriate meals and snacks while in our care.

What is your approach to discipline?

At Jacaranda Early Education, we believe in using gentle, positive discipline methods to help children understand the consequences of their actions and learn to make better choices. We encourage children to take responsibility for their behaviour and to develop empathy, respect and cooperation. Our educators are trained in various behaviour management techniques and will work with children and their families to address any concerns or issues that may arise.

Do you provide any extra-curricular activities or programs for children?

Yes, we offer a variety of extra-curricular activities and programs for children as part of our comprehensive childcare experience. These activities may include yoga, music, dance classes and other creative pursuits. We believe in providing a well-rounded educational experience that nurtures not only the intellectual development of our children but also their physical, emotional and social well-being.

How often do you communicate with parents about their child's progress?

At Jacaranda Early Education, we believe in maintaining open and ongoing communication with parents about their child's progress. We provide regular updates through various channels such as parent-teacher meetings, written reports and informal conversations during pick-up and drop-off times. We also encourage parents to reach out to our educators with any questions or concerns they may have about their child's development.

What measures do you have in place to ensure the safety and security of children?

The safety and security of our children are of the utmost importance to us at Jacaranda Early Education. We have implemented various measures to ensure our centre remains a safe and secure environment for all children. These measures include:

  • Secure access to the premises: All entry points are secured and access is granted only to authorised individuals.
  • Staff qualifications and training: All our educators hold relevant qualifications and are trained in first aid, CPR and child protection.
  • Regular safety audits: We conduct regular safety audits to ensure our facilities and equipment meet the highest safety standards.
  • Emergency procedures: Our staff are trained in emergency procedures and drills, ensuring t they are well-prepared to respond to any emergency situations.
  • Strict child-to-educator ratios: We adhere to the National Quality Framework's requirements for child-to-educator ratios, ensuring each child receives the attention and supervision they need.

We are committed to maintaining a safe and nurturing environment for all children in our care and we continually review and improve our safety and security measures.
